This is the app that my physics students said was the most important for their learning. Students used this app to analyze all forms of motion, ranging from determining the velocity of a moving object, to determining the period of a pendulum and the wavelength of a wave on a slinky. Lots of potential. Only difficulty is making sure that moving objects are clearly aligned with axes for analysis.

iWork equivalent to excel. While I imagined that we would use this app all the time, we have never actually used it in class. When we create data tables for lab reports, we build them in Pages. When we analyze motion data, we use the Vernier Video Physics app. In playing with this app, it is easy to create different graphical representations of data, but I normally have my students hand-graph data in their science notebooks.

Wireless connect/analyze data collected from Vernier probware through LabQuest2 and other sensor interface devices.
|
Like Numbers, I thought that this app would be invaluable for analyzing data collected from our probeware. However, since our purchase of LabQuest2 devices, we have been using our probeware without computers, and students often will simply take snapshots of their graphs to save and import into reports, rather than opening data in the Vernier Graphical Analysis app. We need to play with this more before it will be useful in class.

Digital Lab Manager
(Accompanies Web program, which requires license purchase) |
I found this app while searching for digital lab notebook apps. The app is an accompaniment to the full web version, which is more complicated than what I would ever use in a high school class, though it would be a great tool for managing a research lab.
There is an education version available, but I have not yet tried it. |

Digital Lab Notebook
|
I found this app while searching for digital lab notebook apps. And, on first glance, it was an awesome option for converting to digital notebooks--easy to upload photos, add observations, and sort data into notebooks. And, it includes an option to share data with other account holders and upload data to Dropbox. Sounds great, right?! However, this app crashes so frequently that I have not yet tried it out with students, as I got too frustrated with it myself. It has potential but needs some serious fixing of bugs.
